POTENTIAL TOURISM SITES IN BANGLADESH

Bangladesh is blessed with various tourist attraction which include both naturally and archaeologically significant sites. Thus visitors to Bangladesh could be brought consistently towards all its possessions and resources. The flowing is a list of major sites in Bangladesh that could become key for tourist attraction.

COX’S BAZAR

It is termed as the tourist capital of Bangladesh with a 120 km long sandy, straight and drivable beach. Thousands of tourists, both foreign and local, visit this spot every year. The Inani beach, about 30 km from Cox’s Bazar toward Teknaf, is also a beautiful spot, fill of coral stones. Not very from  Cox’s Bazar is the island of Maheskhali, famous for its Buddhist and Hindu temples which are also sites having dry fish industries. A tripe to Teknaf, about 100 km away from Cox’s Bazar, takes visitors to the southern-most point of Bangladesh. The place is simply fascinating, from which, one can go to the coral island of St. Martins by boat. Cox’s Bazar is connected to Chittagong and Dhaka both by means road and air.

KHULNA
 

The great Sundarbans is the main point of attraction sitting within a complex system of rivers, with an approximate area about 6000 km2, it is the largest single mangrove forest in the world. This is the abode of the Royal Bengal Tiger and on of the most potential sites for ecotourism. It has been declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Khulna has other archaeological sites also.


MAHASTHANGARH [BOGRA]
 

Dating back from the 3rd century BC, this is the earliest known city site in whole of Bengal. Ruins of early Buddhist monasteries near Mahasthangar and Paharpur clearly depicts this. These gigantic temples and monasteries of the eight century are by far the most spectacular Buddhist sites that have been discovered. It has been declared as a World Heritage site by UNESCO.

DHAKA


Situated on the bank of the River Buriganga, Dhaka is the national capital. Founded in 1680 AD as the seat of the imperial Mughal Viceroys of Bengal, is known over centuries for its silk, Muslin and pearls. Being an old city, Dhaka has many potential tourism sites to offer which includes numerous Sultani, Mughal and Colonial establishments, river fronts, recently developed (before and after the liberation  war of 1971) sites and surrounding etc. The National Park at Gazipur, Sonargaon (one of the oldest capitals of Bengal),are situated 25 km away from Dhaka.

CHITTAGONG HILL TRACTS


The tree hilly districts of Rangamati, Khgrachari and Bandrban are inhabited by a number of tribes, each possessing their distinctive culture, rituals and tradition. The picturesque town Rangamati is about 70 km away from the port city of Chittagong. The capital Lake is largest man-made like in the sub-continent.


SYLHET


This is the city of two great saints, Hazrat Shah Jalal(R) and Hazrat Shah Paran(R). It is an area with more than 130 tea garden, beautiful natural rainforests is one of the key components to evoke tourist interests’ interest in Sylhet. Colourful Manipuri and Khasia tribes with their flok dances and distinctive cultural attributes are added attraction. Also one of the smallest rainforests in the world with very rate species of fauna in located here.

COMILLA

The most important place to visit is Mainamati – Lalmia monastaries, exclusive centre for Buddhist culture which flourished between 7th to 12th centuries, belonging to the both the Candra and the Deva dynasties.

BAGERHAT

Holds a site of an untraced ancient citadel called Khalifabad (could well have other names is earlier times ) accompanying the renewed Saith Gumbad Mosque (60-domed) clearly within this site. Built in 14584, with 77 domes, this is the most magnificent and certainly the largest brick mosque in whole of Bangladesh. The mausoleum in memory of the Muslim mystic Khan Jahan Ali is located here. It has also been declared as a World Heritage site by UNESCO.Ancient Buddhist temple at Ayoddha is not very far from this historic citadel either.

SUNDARBANS




Sundarbans is the most wonderful place of tourism spot in Bangladesh. It is one of the biggest mangrove forest in the world. It is the largest continuous  block of mangrove forest in the world. Its area is 5770sq km of land and water. It is the part of world delta; which has been from sediments deposited by the grate rivers. The western part of the forest lies in India and the rest [about 60%] in Bangladesh.



One third of the area of this is covered by river cannel and tidal creeks, varying in width from.Just a few meters to 5 kilometers in some places. All the parts of Sundarbans are subject to tidal tides. The Bangladesh part of this forest is dominated by all high mangrove forest cover. The climate is mainly tropical maritime with lost of rain, most of which falls during the moon soon.The International park area is covered by Mangrove forest. There are small patches of brackish and sandy areas with grass and low shrubs on some of the outer Island. There are many beautiful tress in this forest. Sundari, Golpata, Kaora and Geoa are the most beautiful trees in this forest. Sundarbans is home to many different species of birds, mammals, insects, reptiles and fishes over 120 species of fish and over 270 species of birds have been records in the Sundarbans. The Gangetic River Dolphin (platanista gangeticus) is common in the river. Know less than 50 species reptiles and eight species of amphibians are known to occur. The Sundarbans now support the only population of the Estuarine, or salt-water crocodile in Bangladesh, and that population is estimed at less than 200 individuals. About 32 species mammal of are still found in this forest. Among these are Rhesus Macaques, Clawless Ottes, fishing cats, Leopard Cats and Spotted Deer.
